Baron, Salo Wittmayer

   Galician Jewish historian. He taught history at the Jewish Teachers College in Vienna (1919-26), at the Jewish Institute of Religion in New York (1927-30), and at Columbia University (1930-62). He served as president of the American Academy for Jewish Research and as a member of other academic bodies. His writings include the multi-volume Social and Religious History of the Jews.
